Let's Keep It Simple!

Hello friends! I'm wondering if you found me today because life has become way too complicated for you. In my conversations with friends I'm finding that is true for many of us, so today, I want to talk to you about some ways I keep it simple. I have a simple card to show you that's quick and easy to make, but has lots of appeal, and I'm going to share some strategies I use to keep life simple as a caregiver.

As a caregiver, I often experience times of feeling overwhelmed by my responsibilities. I live with my Mother-in-law who is experiencing some memory difficulties. My Mom lives nearby in a local Retirement Home, and is struggling to find joy in life while dealing with Alzheimer's complicated by Posterial Cortical Atrophy which affects her visual processing. My Dad has heart health issues and lives in a nearby city. All in all, I often feel pulled in several different directions. Here are some guidelines I've found that help me to keep it simple:

1. Schedule regular visits. Obviously that doesn't include surprise trips to the emergency room, but I have created a regular schedule that allows me time to see everyone.

2. Recognize that I have the right to say "No". Just because a family member would like my help to do something or go somewhere, that does not mean that I am obligated. I am allowed to choose what goes on my schedule - no guilt feelings allowed!

3. Plan to participate in activities that recharge my batteries and/or give me a sense of purpose. I am a caregiver, but I did not choose this as my retirement plan. After raising my family I had all kinds of ideas about what life would look like, and this isn't it! So I need to include some volunteer hours that leave me feeling tired, but good about what I've accomplished. And I also include time for crafting, because I find it challenging and rewarding.

My guidelines help me find some balance in life. I recognize that these may not work for you, especially if you're a caregiver who is working full time, but I hope that sharing what works for me will get you thinking about how to simplify your life. What guidelines could you implement that will help you keep it simple?

As promised, I have a simple card to share with you today. This card uses paper, stamps, and one ink pad. It's super quick and easy to make, and adaptable for many occasions.

To create this card I used Highland Heather Gingham Gala Paper 148554, Whisper White Thick Cardstock 140272, Highland Heather Ink 147103, the Itty Bitty Greetings Stamp Set 146667, and the Lovely Lattice Stamp Set. All of the products are from Stampin' Up! and are available in my store. Just click the SHOP NOW button on the tabs at the top of the blog. Until March 31, 2019, if you order the Greetings Stamp Set and the Gingham Gala Paper, you may order the Lovely Lattice Stamp Set for free. What a great deal!

Instructions for this #simplestamping card are available in the Files section of my Craftin' Granny's Stamping Friends Group. Not a friend - just click the Facebook link on the side of my blog page and let me know you'd like to join! While you're there, like my page to keep up to date on Stampin' Up! promotions and projects. I do Facebook Live videos once a week to share more creative inspiration. Hope you'll join me!

Have a blessed day and Keep It Simple!
