Today I have something completely different to share with you. I made a Scrapbook Page! These are few and far between in my life these days, but I do follow the Facebook Page, Scrapbooking Global - Stampin' Up! On that page there are lots of ideas for scrapbooking, Stampin' Up! style. I have loved what I see, but rarely take the time to try to create a scrapbook page. Recently, my son shared with me some photos of himself with his daughter making goofy faces, and I was inspired.
Originally I had planned a very simple page with one strip of the Garden Lane Designer Series Paper, some die cut letters and matted photos. Very basic. But after reading about the Bossy Scrapbooker Challenge, I decided to try to "up my game".
For this layout, we were required to include the following:
1. 3 Photos
2. Background Stamping
3. Ink all of your edges
4. Handwritten Journaling only
5. Strips of Designer Series Paper
6. Matted Photos.
I looked at the background stamping requirement, and decided to add some stamping with Verdant Garden. This is a beautiful stamp set with some great stamps for background stamping. Check out the cards using this set in my previous Facebook Live video. Then I added some paper strips with torn bottom edges.
On the Demonstrator Planning Place, Laura Hill, from the stamping cat.com added some gold gilding on the edge of her punched tag with Versa Mark, and gold embossing powder. This gave me the idea to add some "gilding" to the edges of my DSP, letters, and photo mat. I have to say I loved the effect, and would absolutely use this technique again. Thanks a bunch, Laura!
Inking the edges of EVERYTHING, was a remembrance of my friend Grace Stone. Grace passed away some time ago, but she is dearly missed, and distressing everything was definitely her "style". She loved to make calendars of scrap pages for her family, and I'm sure they treasure the calendars she made them. Joseph and Justin, I hope you know how much your Mom loved you. She talked about you ALL THE TIME, and her love for you both shone through her stories about what you were doing.
Since I wanted to add some journalling to this layout, I put one photo on top of a folded piece of cardstock. This allows the journalling to be there, but tucked away. If this page actually ends up in an album, I will cut a slit in the page protector, allowing the photo to be flipped up to reveal the journalling underneath.
The photos show my son, with his daughter Alice, age 4. He is also Daddy to Aedan, age 2. I was proud when he joined the Canadian Forces right out of Waterford District Highschool. I was terrified, and proud, when he went to Afghanistan. And I am proud of his journey today, as he deals with the aftermath of his experiences overseas. Here he is shown with Sally, his service dog in-training. We're grateful to Citadel Canine, for providing Sally for Greg.
