Whew! Thank goodness for crafting. Life has been a little tough for my elders recently, which means, of course, that they rely a little more on my support to lift their mood and/or take care of physical needs Crafting is my "me" time, a chance to be creative and focus on something positive.
Today I'm going to share a fun fold card that I created for my daughter's birthday. I like to do something a little special when I'm making cards for family, so this occasion seemed to require a fun fold! I don't have a name for the fun fold, so if you know of one, or have a suggestion, feel free to leave a comment below.
The card uses the Magnolia Lane Designer Series Paper, and the Petal Pink colour just seems to suit my daughter, as does the Lace 3D Embossing Folder. To create the card, I started with a standard card base in Thick Whisper White cardstock (5 1/2" by 8 1/2" scored at 4 1/4"). Next I cut a piece of Petal Pink cardstock to 4" by 5 1/2" and ran it through the Big Shot using the Lace Embossing Folder.
Because I had a gift card to include in this card, I added a second layer by cutting a piece of Whisper White cardstock (I didn't think to record the measurement), scoring and folding it with the opening to the left. I added the striped DSP to the top of this piece and stamped the sentiment, magnolia and leaf inside with Sahara Sand ink. For the gift card holder, I cut a piece of DSP to fit inside the right hand side of this layer, then used my 1" punch to cut out a semi circle to make removing the gift card simpler. I used 1/8" Score tape to attach the small magnolia print to the inside.
Next, I glued linen ribbon from the Magnolia Lane Ribbon Combo Pack to the back of the card base, leaving enough to wrap around the card and tie in a bow on the right hand side. The linen ribbon kept the gift card layer from opening until it was untied and pulled out from behind the top layer.
The outside, or top layer of this card, is a rectangle of Whisper White cardstock, folded in half, then decorated with some Petal Pink and Mossy Meadow floral DSP die cut using a Stitched Square from the Stitched Shapes Framelits. I added a double bow with the Mossy Meadow linen thread, also from the Magnolia Lane Ribbon Combo Pack, to make it look like it was tied to the flower on the card front. This layer is popped up with Stampin' dimensionals to allow the linen ribbon to pass underneath. I stamped a magnolia from the Good Morning Magnolia Stamp set in Sahara Sand ink, then added the Celebrate sentiments from the Beautiful You Stamp Set. The magnolias tucked under the top layer were fussy cut from the DSP. Initially I used the co-ordinating die to cut them out, but I didn't like the black border that was left, so I resorted to fussy cutting.
Hope you like the fun fold card today. All of the products mentioned, except the 1/8" Score tape, are available in my store. Don't be afraid to try playing with fun fold or fancy fold cards. I love dressing up the layers, and they always seem to have a "WOW" factor to them.
