A Kit In Colour May Paper Pumpkin Alternates

Hi there Craftin' Friends!

Today I want to share with you some alternate cards for the May Paper Pumpkin Kit. If you're interested in creating the cards as planned, here's a link to a video where I made one of each card "as is". I apologize for the background hum. My computer is sick! I am needing to get it in to a technician soon.

For those of you who may not know about Paper Pumpkin, it's a monthly subscription kit for papercrafters from Stampin' Up! Usually the kit is intended to make cards, although occasionally there are other papercrafting projects. The kit is an excellent value. I love that it creates a crafting experience that is appropriate for anyone, even the busy person who doesn't have much time to spare, because everything is included. You don't have to go searching for supplies. Instructions are included with pictures for the visual person. It's the perfect "starter kit" for beginning crafters, because each month's kit includes an ink spot and a stamp set. If you're just starting out, you can build a collection of images, sentiments, etc. in no time. The kits which make cards have beautiful card bases with matching envelopes. I love the matching envelopes!  I also love Paper Pumpkin because it can be a springboard to alternate projects like I'm going to create today. If you're just beginning to try card designing, Paper Pumpkin is an excellent source of inspiration with products that are designed to work well together.

This month's Paper Pumpkin Kit was especially exciting, because it features some new In Colours which will be a part of the Stampin' Up! colour collection for the next 2 years. They are cheerful, vibrant colours and so easy to use to create bold, fun cards. Misty Moonlight is a beautiful shade of blue, and this month's kit included an ink spot in this colour. Also featured in this month's kit are Bumblebee, Just Jade, and Magenta Madness.

The first alternate card (shown below) uses one of the card bases from the kit. Onto a piece of white cardstock, I stamped the "hey" from the stamp set with the Misty Moonlight ink, then masked the "You're amazing" stamp to reveal only the "You" to complete my sentiment.I used some Denim Ribbon below the sentiment, and stamped some flowers around it. Now, because I don't yet have the other new In Colour inks, I had to be creative. I used Mango Melody, Melon Mambo, and Purple Posy. (I know the Purple Posy ink is no longer available. You could try Highland Heather stamped off once or twice.) Next I matted the sentiment piece on some Misty Moonlight Cardstock and popped the whole thing up on dimensionals. Some basic rhinestones in the flower centers finished off the card. I stamped the "You're amazing" sentiment inside the card.

My second alternate card used the Purple Posy card base. I stamped the image with the 3 "plus signs" repeatedly across the center of the card base to create a background using the Misty Moonlight ink. I stamped the "You're amazing" sentiment on a cut out piece from the Paper Pumpkin Kit. Next I took one of the vellum pieces from the kit, and wrapped the Magenta Madness and Whisper White twine around it 3 times. I used glue dots to fasten the vellum down over the card base. By placing them behind where the sentiment would go, they didn't show. The sentiment was popped up with dimensionals from the Paper Pumpkin Kit. I finished this card off with some enamel flowers from the Paper Pumpkin Kit. They are adorable and so easy to use because they are adhesive backed! To dress up inside the card I stamped some flowers with Melon Mambo ink.

Almost by accident, I discovered how well Crumb Cake Cardstock worked with this month's bright colours. For my third alternate card I cut a Crumb Cake card base and stamped some flowers in the upper right and lower left corners on the front of the card. For this card I used Pumpkin Pie, Misty Moonlight, and Melon Mambo ink. I wrapped some twine around the bottom of the "ticket" style die cut with the rainbow image. This was adhered to the card front with dimensionals. A vellum label was added using glue dots  hidden behind where the "oh, happy day!" sentiment would go. I used a 1/2" strip of Crumb Cake to stamp the sentiment, then attached it with glue dots as well. Finally, a few more basic rhinestones completed the card. Since I didn't have an envelope to match this card from the kit, I stamped a few flowers on a medium Whisper White envelope to co-ordinate with the flowers on the card. To complete the inside of this card I stamped a flower in Melon Mambo in the upper right and lower left corner, with a Misty Moonlight "spray" of 3 lines (found in the stamp set).

My final alternate card for this month just might be my favourite. I stamped the "oh, happy day!" sentiment with Misty Moonlight ink onto the sentiment strip from the kit. First, I trimmed 1/4" from one end of the bold coloured die cut (shown below). I matted the die cut piece from the kit onto a piece of white cardstock, and punched two small blooms, also in white. I punched centers for the flowers using a standard hole punch from the 1/4" strip of the die cut piece mentioned above. The flowers were adhered in the upper right corner of the die cut, one popped up. The sentiment was layered over a 1/4" strip of white cardstock and popped up. Finally I added a double bow with the twine from the kit. Inside this card I stamped the three "plus signs" in the upper left and bottom right corners. I also glued a 1/4" strip of Pumpkin Pie cardstock just above the bottom stamped image across the card insert (4 by 5 1/4" Whisper White).

Here's a tip for you Paper Pumpkin subscribers. When you cut a card front off of a card to create an alternate project, keep the white back part. That is what I used for the white cardstock in today's projects.

I hope you enjoyed today's cards. There are always more alternate projects to be found on Pinterest. I have a Paper Pumpkin board you can follow if you're looking for more ideas. #sendingsunshine to your family and friends. Why not add some treats to the beautiful yellow box the kit comes in and send it to someone special. Check out Sara's video if you'd like more information.
