One Sheet Wonder - Easy and Fun!

Hello Craftin' Friends!

This morning I had a wonderfully long walk with my dog along the river near where I live. We (FINALLY!) had some beautiful spring weather. Around my neck of the woods, spring has been cold and wet, feeling more like November than April or May, so I am thankful! The weather is definitely helping to make my heart happy today.

Another reason I'm feeling happy is that I tried something new! I have created a wonderful project to share with you using one sheet of Designer Series Paper to make 11 cards. I love One Sheet Wonders, but sometimes feel that the cards they produce are just a little plain. I think I managed to jazz these up a bit, without making them too difficult to replicate. To play along, pick a piece of 12 by 12" DSP that does not have a directional pattern, then add several colours of cardstock to co-ordinate. Now you are ready to go!

Last evening I demonstrated how to cut the DSP and make 3 of the card projects. You can check out the video in the link below. I apologize for the background humming noise. My computer is noisy and needs some repair. Here are the three cards I showed in the video.

One Sheet Wonder Cutting Demonstration

Most of the cards were decorated with a grouping of punched flowers, or a stamped flower inside, but I had a great time stamping Happy Birthday in a staggered design on the inside of the Fabulous At Any Age card. Here's the result.

Today's blog post will include photos demonstrating how to use the remaining pieces of cut DSP to complete eight more cards. Now my intention here is not that you follow the exact recipe to produce duplicate cards, although you could, but rather to suggest ideas for you to adapt to your own choice of DSP and your own colour scheme. The stamp sets I used for these cards are Itty Bitty Greetings (because this set includes such a wide variety of sentiments) and the Verdant Garden Stamp Set (which co-ordinates with the Garden Lane DSP I chose). I do recommend the Itty Bitty Greetings Stamp Set as a good choice for card makers, because it is likely to have a sentiment appropriate for the type of card you need. The Verdant Garden Stamp Set is retiring very soon, so if you love it as much as I do, you'll want to hop on over to my web store to make a purchase. Using the two pieces of 2 by 5 1/4" DSP I made the following cards, one card using each side of the DSP. For these cards I used a square stitched shapes die, but you could just cut the squares to the sizes needed. The Mossy Meadow card used gold heat embossing with the Verdant Garden Stamp Set. The little flower from this set looked beautiful heat embossed on the inside of the card as well.  The Shaded Spruce card used some White heat embossing. Please note, there's no need to use heat embossing, depending on the colour selections you have made. I just thought it worked well with my colour choices here, and I love heat embossing! One card used gold rhinestones left over from a Paper Pumpkin Kit. The other card used some Basic Pearls. For specific measurements, please check out Craftin' Granny's Stamping Friends. With the two pieces of 4 by 5 1/4" DSP, I made a thank you card and a sending prayers card. Both cards use the same basic design showcasing the opposite sides of the paper. For the circles, I used a Stitched Shapes circle and a Layering Circles die. One card demonstrated a couple ways of using embossing folders. The other card used the Small Bloom Punch which is available in the new Annual Catalogue. You need it, friends! The flower centers were done with a regular old hole punch.

One easy way to use a bit of DSP on a card is to angle a piece of cardstock underneath. For these cards I used the 3 by 4" pieces of DSP, and cut cardstock 1/4" larger. One used an embossing folder on the cardstock, the other is plain.

The last two cards used a 3 by 3" square of DSP, which I matted with co-ordinating cardstock. After adding a little ribbon/twine, I popped these pieces up on a light coloured piece of cardstock which had the sentiment stamped along the bottom. The size of the cardstock varied with the size of the sentiment.

The Verdant Garden Stamp Set has a wonderful two-part sentiment perfect for a wedding or anniversary card. Here's how I used the second part inside the Mint Macaron version of this card.

Well, I hope you enjoyed my One Sheet Wonder Cards. If you try this project, please share the results! You can link photo(s) in the comments section here on the blog, or in Craftin' Granny's Stamping Friends. I would really love to see what you make!

Take good care friends. Be kind to yourself and others.
