Hello Craftin' Friends!
I went a little crazy with fun fold cards using the supplies from this month's Paper Pumpkin Kit. Everyone loves a fun fold, right? This month's kit was a real winner with the wonderful sentiments in the stamp set, the stunning gray/black/silver card bases, and the green check elements! What a kit! I loved the basic designs of the cards, so it took me awhile to get my mind off of those and onto alternative cards. I've included measurements here for the pieces I cut. You can also see a video tutorial here.
First I'll show the one card that isn't a fun fold. For this card I used the outside of the vellum tree stencil. The only thing I added was a narrow scrap of Shaded Spruce cardstock. You could use one of the red die cut elements if you don't have the Shaded Spruce cardstock and I think it would turn out beautifully.
Measurements:
- One gray/black/silver card base cut in half and trimmed to 4" by 5 1/4"
- Shaded Spruce cardstock 3/8" by 4"
The second card I created is a book binding fun fold. These are easy and super fun to create. For this card, I used Shaded Spruce cardstock for my card base, and added some Real Red cardstock for mats. The sentiment is on a half inch strip of Real Red cardstock. I also added some Real Red braided trim (retired). You could use some twine from the kit instead, or substitute the Real Red Ruffled Ribbon from the Mini Catalogue.
Measurements:
- Shaded Spruce card base 4 1/4" by 11", scored at 5 1/2"
- Real Red cardstock 1 1/8" by 3 7/8", 3 7/8" square, 4" square, 1/2" strip for sentiment about 3 1/4" long
- Green check 1" by 3 3/4", 3 3/4" square (save leftover bit for another card)
- Basic White cardstock 3 7/8" square
The third card I created is an easel card, and I had fun with the images from the stamp set for this card. I used Smoky Slate ink to stamp the snowflakes randomly to create the side panels, and I used the trees to create the center panel. By using the top hinge of my stamparatus I was able to stamp the trees in a straight line, but in a staggered pattern (see video). For bling on this card I couldn't resist using the Shaded Spruce gems from the Holiday Rhinestones pack found in the Annual Catalogue.
Measurements:
- Shaded Spruce Card Base from kit - cut 1 1/8" in from each side from bottom edge to score line.
- Real Red cardstock - 2 pieces 1" by 4 1/8", 1 piece 3 1/8" by 4 1/8"
- Basic White cardstock for stamping on - 2 pieces 7/8" by 4", 1 piece 3" by 4"
- For inside card - Real Red cardstock 3/8" by 3 1/8", leftover bit of green check from card above trimmed to 1/4" by 3"
My final card today is a tunnel card. For this card, I used the second half of the gray/black/silver card based used in card 2. I added a silver foil deer using the Deer Builder punch. I sacrificed one of the envelopes to go inside the "tunnel" and added a star (retired) hanging from some silver thread (retired). You could substitute a star cut from silver foil, and I have used fishing line in the past to create a dangling element. The sentiments inside the card are stamped on die cuts from the Tasteful Labels dies, and the circle to form the tunnel is from the Layering Circles dies.
Measurements:
- Shaded Spruce cardstock for card base 5 1/2" by 8 1/2", scored at 4 1/4"
- Envelope cut open and trimmed to 5" wide by 5 1/8" high
- Gray/Black/Silver card base folded shut with 1/8" trimmed off the right side through both thicknesses and 1/4" trimmed from the bottom through both thicknesses. With card base open, score 2" in from right and left edges. Cut 2 5/8" circle from the center of the card base.
- Basic White for die cut elements
- Red sentiment strip from kit cut in half
