So pleased to share today's project with you. Let me tell you the back story. My Mom is in a Retirement Home, and has not been doing well for quite a few months. She's become discouraged about her inability to find her words, making it hard for her to carry on conversations with the folks at the home. As a result, she spends most of her time in her room napping. One thing that brightens her day, aside from visits, is flowers. She has loved receiving flowers and has even invited friends to her room to see them. The only problem is, they don't always get watered, and her room doesn't get a lot of natural light, so the flowers haven't been flourishing. So I decided to make some flowers to brighten her room.
These beautiful flowers are made using daisy punches from Stampin' Up. After Mom's most recent flowers died, I brought home the mug, and decided to take my colour selection from the mug itself. I chose Melon Mambo, Call Me Clover, Whisper White, and for the flower centers, So Saffron.
I added some florist's foam to the mug, and then created daisies as shown in last Thursday's Facebook Live video. For these daisies I chose to use 3 large and 3 medium daisies. I glued the 3 large daisies together, then used my bone folder to shape them. Next I glued 3 medium daisies together and shaped with the bone folder. I used dimensionals between the 2 layers for added depth.
I used a 22 gauge wire which I attached with Tear N Tape to the back of the large daisies, then topped with a 1" circle punched out in the same colour as the flowers to hide the wire.
Here's a link to the Facebook Live video, in case you'd like to see the whole process.
Now, I thought I needed to bring the green into this arrangement, so I created some leaves using the Flourish Thinlets Dies. I added wire to the "stem" of these, to allow me to place them in the florist's foam. Initially I attached the leaves to the flowers, but I found it worked better to just place them where I had need of some "filler".
I used one dozen flowers in my arrangement and it seemed to work well, but of course, the number needed would depend on the size of your mug. Mine was quite large, and intended for flowers, not coffee!
I failed to mention the flower centers. For those, I used a small flower punch that I've had in my stash for years. I think it was a dollar store purchase. If you have Stampin' Up's Bitty Blooms punches from the Occasions Catalogue, they would work beautifully. Faceted dots or the Perennial Essence Floral Centers from the Annual Catalogue would also be eye catching, depending on the colours you chose for your daisies.
Hope you liked today's paper crafting idea. Let me know if you try to create an arrangement of your own. I know you will have so much fun creating with the daisy punches and the co-ordinating stamp sets. You can shop my store at any time by clicking the Shop Now tab at the top of the page.
Happy Crafting!
