Hello crafters! It's Katie Pulham here to share some creative inspiration with you today. Check out these Cute Halloween treat holders featuring Stampin’ Up’s Cute
Halloween DSP (156479) and Banner Year stamp set (158239) - they are the perfect
size for a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup or snack-sized chocolate bars and candies!
P.S.Paper Craft’s Christmas treat boxes were my inspiration for this project.
Although other crafters have created similar treat holders with tag topper
punches, I especially loved how Patti’s design had a band wrapped around it
horizontally to help hold the treats in. However, I wanted to use two-sided DSP
as a base for the treat holder instead of cardstock, which is larger, so my
treat holders ended up shorter.

Join in on the fun and create your own treat holders with any tag topper punch! I used my retired Scalloped Tag Topper Punch, but Stampin’ Up is currently selling two tag topper punches you can choose from. The Delightful Tag Topper Punch (149518) is most similar to the Scalloped Tag Topper Punch, but the Fancy Tag Topper Punch (152711) seems really versatile and would be well-suited for a Halloween aesthetic.
First, cut a 2” wide strip of DSP. Use your tag topper
punch on each end of the strip of paper. Then, using the scoring blade on your
paper trimmer, score lines 1 ⅝” from each end of the strip. Fold your creases.
Pick a coordinating paper for the horizontal band and cut a strip 1” wide. You
can change the width of the band to suit the pattern on your paper, if you need
- the band just needs to be wide enough to hold your treat-of-choice in! Next,
score lines 1” and 1 ¾” from each end and fold the creases. I arranged my band
so the slit was on the front of the treat holder and I could use my
embellishment to hold both ends of the band together.
Decorate and embellish how
you like! I loved the DSP so much I fussy cut some creatures out to pop up as
embellishment using Stampin’ Up’s dimensionals (104430). I also used some of the
Halloween-themed stamps from the Banner Year set - they are the perfect size for
a treat box!
I used the Everyday Label Punch (144668), and then stamped the cobweb
from Banner Year off the edges of my label in Memento (132708). Next, I stamped
the happy haunting sentiment in the middle with Pumpkin Pie (147086). It was
looking cute, but I felt like there were some empty spaces still, so I used a
black Stampin’ Write marker (100082) to draw in a spider hanging in the space
below one of the cobwebs.
I stamped the Boo! sentiment from Banner Year on a ½” strip of Old Olive cardstock (100702) and cut an ½” strip of DSP to accent with. The Banners Pick A Punch (153608) would be a great tool to do this step quickly, but I used my paper trimmer and Snips (103579).
I used the
happy haunting stamp and Everyday Label Punch again, but this time I stamped the
bat’s wings on either side of the sentiment and used the punch again to make the
label a custom fit.
After you embellish your treat boxes, fill with sweets and
close up with a ribbon. I used some retired highland heather ribbon that came
from a past Sale-a-bration because it gave the perfect pop of colour to my treat
holders while pulling from the cute and quirky colour combination in the DSP. If
you are looking for the same pop of colour, Stampin’ Up sells a ½” grosgrain
ribbon in highland heather (155812) that would be perfect, or they sell ⅜”
black, glittered organdy ribbon (147897) that is spooky and sparkly!
Happy crafting!
Katie Pulham
